Schedule a ConsultationExcess fat in multiple areas of the body is a nuisance for the majority of men and women. Curves and bulges in the wrong places can lead to discomfort in clothing and dissatisfaction with the way you look.
Dieting and exercise can help, but some fatty deposits are nearly impossible to minimize without surgical intervention. These areas are called “resistant areas of fat” and don’t respond to conventional weight-loss methods. In these situations, liposuction can help.

What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that requires tiny incisions in excessively fatty area(s) of the body. A thin, hollow tube (cannula) removes the excess fat through vacuum suction. This allows Dr. Chin to sculpt the area and craft smoother, more slender, and defined contours.
Dr. Chin may use a variety of different techniques to optimize the removal of fat, minimize contour irregularities, and redrape or tighten the skin to minimize skin laxity. He may also use power-assisted liposuction (PAL) using a reciprocating device to break up the fat as he aspirates it.
Dr. Chin has found that using this SAFE (separation, aspiration, fat equalization) technique is valuable for ensuring a smooth and even contour.
The Benefits of Liposuction
- Less fat in the most common trouble zones
- Increased confidence in your own skin
- Broader range of clothing choices
- Improvement in the contours of the body
- Fat may be transferred and grafted to other parts of the body, such as the buttocks, to achieve a curvier waistline and derriere

A Natural Look
Dr. Chin can provide you with a natural look with liposuction because of the nature of the procedure. As he moves the cannula back and forth beneath the surface of the skin, he is able to use his artistic ability to sculpt the body into a more flattering shape. He can correct any asymmetry and leave the skin looking as smooth and as firm as nature intended.
Flatter Stomach
The abdomen is the most common area of the body treated with liposuction. Women especially have an issue with fat in the lower abdomen and can often fit into their pre-pregnancy jeans or “skinny jeans” just by reducing fat in this area. Less fat in the abdomen can also provide the hourglass figure most women desire.
Total Body Makeover
Liposuction is one of the most versatile procedures because it can be performed on most areas of the body. The most popular areas include the arms, back, abdomen, hips, thighs, flanks, and buttocks. Several areas can be addressed in one procedure, which will save both money and time compared to getting one area treated at a time.
Confidence
After liposuction, patients who once felt self-conscious about their stubborn fat can show off their previously troublesome areas with confidence. Clothing fits better, their body feels and looks leaner, and their overall quality of life is improved.
Only small incisions are needed in the area the patient wishes to address. As Dr. Chin gently moves the cannula into one incision at a time, the fat is destroyed and suctioned away.
This basic process can be performed in a few different ways, including the super-wet technique, the tumescent technique, the laser-assisted lipolysis (Smartlipo™) technique, and the power-assisted liposuction (PAL) technique.
All procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and are commonly performed under general anesthesia. Other anesthesia options include intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. All of your options will be discussed in greater detail during your consultation with Dr. Chin.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much weight will I lose with liposuction?
Liposuction should not be considered a procedure for weight loss. On average, a person may lose several pounds of targeted fat. For your safety, there may be limits on how much fat will be removed at one session.
How much does liposuction cost?
Liposuction costs will vary depending on the extent and number of fat deposits removed in the treatment areas. Dr. Chin will provide you with a liposuction price after your consultation.
Am I a candidate for liposuction?
Ideal candidates for liposuction have realistic expectations for the procedure, are in good physical health, do not smoke, and are at or near their ideal weight. They wish to reduce fat from an area of the body that is resistant to diet and exercise.
Are there scars associated with liposuction?
Each incision and resulting scar in the area is about ¼ inch long and will fade significantly with time.
What is the liposuction recovery process like?
You should arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure. It is also wise to arrange for someone to stay with you at home for the first day should you need any assistance, especially if a large area of the body has been addressed.
Most patients are comfortable returning to work a few days to a week after their surgery. Compression garments may be worn to help reduce swelling and encourage the area to adapt to its new shape.
Can liposuction reduce cellulite?
Liposuction will not eliminate cellulite, but it can smooth the area to some extent. Liposuction will mainly sculpt the area into a more flattering shape and reduce the overall size. The appearance of cellulite may be improved, but Dr. Chin often uses VelaShape® III after liposuction to smooth and firm the treated areas. VelaShape® III is a non-invasive body contouring treatment for cellulite.
Will the fat grow back in the treated areas?
The fat that is removed is permanently gone. However, the remaining fat cells in the area can increase in size with additional weight gain, so it is recommended that you maintain a stable weight after the procedure.
Can I have multiple procedures done at the same time?
Other plastic surgeries are often performed at the same time and can reshape your body and outlook on life.
