Open Up Your Eyes and Improve Your Vision

The eyes are the windows to the soul and the pathway to how we view the rest of the world. Having young and alert eyes is important for a person to look and feel youthful. Many people have drooping eyelid tissues and fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Excess eyelid skin and fat can make a person look haggard and tired and can also obstruct their vision. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure designed to remove skin and fat that hangs over the eyelids to open up the eyes and may improve a person’s vision.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery is usually a short procedure that can make a big difference. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Chin will start by making an inconspicuous incision along the crease of the eyelids. For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made either just below the lashes or on the inside of the lid. Excess fat and skin are trimmed away, and the muscles are tightened into a more natural and youthful position. The surface is smoother around the eye, and the incisions are sutured shut.
Often, the forehead and brow have drooped as well, pushing the heavy brow and eyelid skin into the eye socket giving a puffy and tired appearance. Dr. Chin will be able to distinguish if you would benefit from a brow lift as well as an upper lid blepharoplasty, which alone may limit the aesthetic improvement. If your drooping eyelids (eyelid ptosis) are due to a weakness in the actual muscles that elevate the eyelid, Dr. Chin may refer you to an ophthalmologist that specializes in eyelid reconstruction.
Eyelid Surgery Can Correct:
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds
- Excess fatty deposits that cause puffiness
- Bags beneath the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles on the upper and lower lids
Eyelid Surgery Results
Once swelling and bruising have subsided, patients can expect to be happy with their newly rejuvenated eyes. They will have eyes that appear more alert and awake and have a wider range of vision without excess skin and fat obstructing their view. With smoother, better-defined eyes, you will look younger and more refined. Although the eyes will continue to be affected by the natural aging process, patients can enjoy their results for many years with a healthy diet and skin care regimen.
