Men often care about their appearance as much as women do, but a stigma still surrounds the idea of men getting cosmetic procedures. Fortunately, with more male celebrities opening up about undergoing cosmetic procedures—whether surgical or non-surgical—more men are opting to rejuvenate their faces and bodies through plastic surgery. In this blog, we discuss some of the most popular plastic surgery options for men, including body and face procedures.

Why Do Men Choose Plastic Surgery?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), men accounted for about six percent of all cosmetic procedures performed in 2023. While that number may seem small, it continues to grow each year. So, what makes men seek out cosmetic procedures? One idea is that men are staying in the corporate world longer than before. Retiring at 65 is no longer the norm, so the ASPS theorizes that men are looking for cosmetic procedures to keep them looking younger and more vital, giving them an edge in business for a longer time.
Top Plastic Surgeries for Men
The top three most popular surgeries for men in 2023 included both face and body procedures. The ASPS 2023 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report states that gynecomastia surgery rose by a whopping 88% between 2022 and 2023, putting it in the top spot for most requested male cosmetic procedures. Liposuction came in second, with nearly 21,000 procedures performed and a six percent increase, and blepharoplasty came in third, with 15,000 procedures performed and a 13% increase over 2022. Below, we explore why men may increasingly choose these particular cosmetic procedures.
Gynecomastia Surgery
Coming in at number one is gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction. Gynecomastia is a common condition that affects men of all ages, but especially those over the age of 50. It can be an embarrassing issue for many men, making them feel self-conscious about going without a shirt, whether in public or private. No one wants to be embarrassed by “man boobs” or “moobs.” They want to be able to fully enjoy life, from chilling by the pool to an intimate moment with their partner, without worrying about the appearance of their chest.
Gynecomastia surgery changes all that, removing the excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue that contribute to enlarged male breasts and giving you more defined pectorals. If your increased breast volume is caused by excess glandular tissue, Dr. Chin will use excision to remove the redundant skin and tissue. If your larger breast size is due primarily to fat accumulation, liposuction is used to smooth your chest. In some cases, Dr. Chin may use a combination of techniques to restore a more masculine contour to your chest.
Liposuction
Right behind gynecomastia surgery at a close second is liposuction. Women aren’t the only ones who are insecure about love handles, a muffin top, or excess pockets of fat on their bodies. Men struggle with the same concerns, as well as with stubborn areas of fat that refuse to respond to attempts to reduce them with diet and exercise.
One of the biggest benefits of liposuction is its versatility—it can be used to slim and shape your body from your chin to your ankles. Dr. Chin uses several methods of liposuction tailored to your specific needs, including the super-wet technique, tumescent liposuction, laser-assisted lipolysis (Smartlipo®), and power-assisted liposuction (PAL).
Whether you want to eliminate a double chin and sculpt your jawline or get rid of a tummy pooch and define your abs, liposuction is the answer. It’s a great complement to other cosmetic procedures and can be combined with nearly any other surgery (or surgeries) to give you the body contour you’ve been working towards.
Eyelid Surgery
The third most popular plastic surgery procedure for men in 2023 was eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty. As the number of people working from home has grown, men are finding themselves spending an increasing amount of time on video calls, seeing themselves in the little box in the corner of their computer screen for hours on end. As a result, many men have noticed that drooping eyelids and bags under their eyes are making them look older than they are.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower lids or both. Excess skin and fat are removed, and muscles are repositioned to reduce or eliminate puffiness under the eyes. Eyelid lifts are often combined with a facelift, brow lift, or both for a more complete facial revitalization.
Other Popular Cosmetic Procedures for Men
While cosmetic surgeries for men rose overall between 2022 and 2023, non-surgical procedures also increased. One non-surgical procedure outperformed all three of the above surgeries combined, with over half a million men getting BOTOX® Cosmetic or other neuromodulator injections to smooth facial wrinkles. An increased interest in skincare gave laser treatments and skin resurfacing procedures (like the ones found at our Aspire MediSpa) a boost, signifying that men also wish to remedy wrinkles and skin damage for a more youthful appearance.
